Welcome to SCAN
The South Carolina Association of Naturalists (SCAN) is an organization dedicated to the gathering and sharing of natural history information about South Carolina.
Founded in 1976 by naturalist Rudy Mancke, naturalist and co-host of the popular and long-running public television program NatureScene, SCAN is composed of people who have an amateur or professional interest in the natural history of South Carolina. The primary mission of SCAN is to gather and share natural history information among its members and with the general public. SCAN publishes lists of the observed flora and fauna from each field trip with an overall goal of updating the body of natural history knowledge about the state.
Each month we gather to explore a different natural area of the state. A newsletter containing flora and fauna observations from the previous field trip is circulated following each meeting. The newsletter also contains announcements about the upcoming field trip and other information of interest to naturalists.
